Week 1: Zero banana-loving dogs found

  • It’s been a week since I moved into my new place in Ulsoor. It’s by the lake. My friend John Mathew was excited that we would be neighbours. He came over with Aswin on the weekend and help me orgainse my books across my many bookshelves.

  • I’ve made an acquaintance with all the stray dogs around my new home, bribing them with parle g biscuits, pedigree feed, and milk bread, with a hope that I will be seen as an ally, and will not be barked at during my night walks. The alpha among them is a tiny white dog, and I’ve named him Maximus. I am yet to find a stray dog that likes Bananas but my search will continue.

  • I went plant shopping for the first time in my life and bought the largest snake plant in the local nursery. I tried making friends with the owner by sharing my name and a small piece of my life history, which he ignored, before moving on to serve another customer who had just walked in. My goals is to fill my home with a wide range of plants that all have one thing in common: requiring water only once a week. Thanks to this feature and a trusty recurring calendar invite, I might go an entire year without killing any of them.

  • We have two security guards who do the night shift at the gate of the residential society that I live in. I’ve named them Venky (his actual name) and Monkey (likes to get drunk post 11pm watching Vijay and Ajay Devgan movies).

  • I’ve started outlining my new novella. The characters are starting to form in my mind, and I’ve started figuring out their arcs and favorite foods and least favorite music artists. The book will be based heavily on dogs, so Im reading ‘The art of racing the rain’ by Garth Stein to be able to go deeper into the world of doggies. Up next is a book called ‘Watership Down’ by Ridhard Adams; its about Anthropomorphic rabbits, but written like an epic. And then after will come ““Fifteen Dogs” by André Alexis, in which gods give 15 dogs human consciousness in Toronto.

  • Overall, I am pleased that I’m hitting the gym regularly at 630AM each mornings. The weighing scale says nice things about me daily, and my new Nepali cook can finally make a decent dosa (after one week of trying and failing). Her onion chutney slaps though, absolutely delicious spicy and thick.

  • One fun observation is that my cook is Nepali, and my maid is an old Tamil women that’s about 52. The maid keeps talking to the Nepali cook in Tamil incessantly, even though neither of them share a common tongue. I’m keen to see how their relationship pans out eventually.

  • Growing long list of things I want to do this year: Make a gen-ai short film, write a first draft of a novella, make a gen-ai based podcast, and also make gen-ai designed bookmarks. Also need to host the second edition of my PPT party.
